Answer #1:
hi there i read your question in interest but you have had a reply that sounds like a scam please ignore it the reply is the first one posted.anyways as to your question i think really there is a moral question on both sides i guess, and i cant understand why your mother in law cant wait a little until you are both on your feet and working again after the birth of your child, legally if your mother in law can prove to a small claim courts satisfaction that her daughter owes her the money then the court can make a judgement demanding repayment,
hopefully she wont be mean enough to do this but if so all you can do provide evidence of your family incomes and hopefully the court will take this into account when structing a repayment plan
I do hope your mother in law dosnt take this action also a ex member of the armed forces is there no help or legal advice your wife could get from them ie the british legion i know they are very good also another good place to go to for advice is the citizens advice bureau if you get served with court papers take them there and they may be able to write to your mother in law and give you advice if it does go to court
i dont know if this will be any help but i hope so good luck and congrats on the new baby
regards
